During the early years,
Mr. Hosoda was the backbone of the newly-formed organization. Through
his tireless efforts, the San Francisco Associates soon became of
the powerhouse organization in Northern California, sponsoring teams
from the “C” through the “AA” levels. The crowning glory came on
March 26, 1961 when the Associates won the AA State Championship
over the perennial champs, the San Kwo Low Lords of Los Angeles
at Kezar Pavilion. Mr. Hosoda’s son, Satoru, commented that he had
never seen his father so elated as on that day the Associates won
the State AA title. Mr. Hosoda was also instrumental in the development
of goodwill and sportsmanship in the community through gestures,
such as arranging a matchup between the Associates AA team and the
Japan Olympic basketball team in 1963.
Mr. Hosoda was a very
generous and kind-hearted person. His warm hospitality provided
for many get togethers and meetings at his house. He provided numerous
opportunities for many young men. His dedication and love for a
then fledgling organization has made it possible for our children
today to enjoy and benefit from the Associates organization. We
shall be forever grateful to Mr. Juro Hosoda.
